Top ten tips to real weight loss:
There is more to losing weight than counting calories and exercising!
After many years of helping people to successfully lose weight – not by dieting, but by changing their thoughts and lifestyle, I thought I would share my top ten tips to getting it right forever.
1. Educate yourself as to what real nutrition is. Clue: It is NOT cereal with milk and sugar for breakfast, a granary ham sandwich for lunch; meat, pasta and a few vegetables for dinner, with the odd salad thrown in! Read Dr Joel Fuhrman’s book “Eat to Live” or Mary-Anne Shearers book “The Natural Way”.
2. Get in touch with your real hunger / fullness and learn to interpret your body’s signals properly again. Listen to your body – what is it really saying to you?
3. Heal the inner emotions you are feeding. A good hypnotherapist can help to uncover the pain.
4. Discover and amend the beliefs (misbeliefs) you have regarding our weight. e.g. “I will always have a weight problem.” Learn to use ‘tapping’ (EFT or TFT) to deal with stubborn old belief patterns.
5. Feel good about yourself no matter how you look now. The worse you feel about yourself, the more you self-sabotage your efforts. The better you feel about yourself the more likely you are to look after your own needs. Find a good therapist or coach to help you.
6. Correct any chemical imbalances we have in our body. Excess insulin, for example, will keep you hungry and no amount of willpower will overcome the basic survival instinct of hunger! Sugar and refined carbohydrates cause imbalances – cut them out first! Find a good nutritionist who understands how food affects the endocrine system and can help you.
7. Change your attitudes and intentions. There is no doubt that the single most important thing you can do is believe that you are a healthy person! Now. Not that you will be, one day. If you are constantly lamenting about needing to lose weight and how difficult it is, you are actually perpetuating your story that you are fat, and that you can’t do it. Your subconscious mind will keep your ‘story’ about yourself true and alive. You are what you think you are!
8. Change your beliefs about food and learn to love eating healthy foods that make you feel good! Make a promise to yourself to try some high nutrition recipes.
9. Remember that carbohydrates – especially refined carbohydrates – make you MORE hungry. Eating sweets, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc is like taking appetite enhancers!
10. Promise yourself that you will not eat anything low in nutrition (below 500 on the MANDI scale) until you have eaten all the fruit and vegetables that your body needs for the day.
